There will be an interesting contest at Cougar Park tonight when two of the local non-league sides meet for the first ever as Silsden, new to the

football pyramid, face Guiseley, who for so long were the area's top semi-pro club.

Both sides will be looking for a positive performance despite their respective managers talking down the need for a result. The home side are

still coming to terms with the quality they will face now they have been accepted into the North West Counties League while Guiseley are still shaping their squad after gaining promotion back to the UniBond Premier Division.

Neither have fulfilled their ambitions in pre-season but both have had promising displays along the way. Guiseley still have some practice games to go but this could be Silsden's final outing before they begin their league season next Saturday.

Despite losses against higher-ranking clubs, Silsden have not lost last season's knack of scoring goals. They have scored four times in their three friendly fixtures - the only game they failed to register in was against a Burnley XI.

That will cause concern for Guiseley boss Neil Parsley because his side have

developed a worrying record of conceding. Saturday's warm-up at Northern

Counties East Division One outfit Yorkshire Amateurs ended 5-5.

"We should have a better side available tonight than we had at the weekend," said Guiseley manager Parsley.

"We have a couple of injuries that I am hoping have sorted themselves out, one or two are returning from holiday and David Cooke got married on

Saturday so a few of his team-mates were guests. I just hope an evening match will not give us the problems the players faced on Saturday in the

searing heat when they were just glad to hear the final whistle."
