Pre-match favourites Girlington lifted the Thrippleton Cup for the first time in their history and in doing so destroyed Allerton's dream of a cup double.

They defeated their rivals by 99 runs in the final held at Westwood Park on Sunday.

Allerton skipper Shokat Ali won the toss and chose to field first.

Victory was accomplished in traditional Girlington style with a hard-hitting batting display led by Maqsood Hussain (104), Javed Akhtar (52) and Zahir Hussain (72), which helped them to a healthy 265 for nine - a target Allerton never really looked like achieving.

Girlington were given a tremendous start with a partnership of 101 between Akhtar and Hussain before Allerton made a breakthrough.

Fourteen-year-old Junaid Bashir removed Akhtar and a mini collapse followed which saw Girlington slump to 128 for four.

Maqsood Hussain was joined at the wicket by Zahir Hussain. These two compiled what proved to be a match-winning partnership of exactly 100, before Maqsood was caught by Bashir off the bowling off Rezwan.

It was left to Zahir Hussain to guide Girlington to the close and a total of 265, which would have been a great deal more but for the efforts of Allerton's young prospect Bashir, who returned four for 38 from his nine-over spell.

Allerton, looking for a start similar to Girlington, were rocked back on their heels when opener John Atkinson was run out looking for a second run when the score was only three, and from then on Allerton were constantly on the back foot, despite some typical big hitting by Nabeel Nawaz (27).

Nawaz perished in the deep, caught by skipper Zaheer Ahmed off the bowling of Asif Aziz.

Opening bat Mohammed Sagir (28) was the sixth wicket to fall at 91, also falling to Aziz, and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.

It was left to Mohammed Munir (32) and Kamran Raza (14) with a last-wicket stand of 28 to bring some respectability to the Allerton total, bringing them to within 99 runs of the Girlington score.

Zahir Hussain finished with three for 30 with the ball to go with his 72 with the bat and his all-round efforts were rewarded with the man of the match

trophy.
