A mother-of-two claims her family has been left an easy target for burglars after a double glazing company failed to complete work on her home.

Jodie Hirst's complaint about the company is one of 1,500 received by West Yorkshire trading standards bosses in the last 12 months about double glazing companies.

Miss Hirst, 29, of East Bowling, said she placed an order with Coldseal for two front doors for her house in Sheridan Street in March.

"The new doors were a priority when we moved in because the previous owner had been burgled," explained Miss Hirst.

The doors cost £1,500 and were delivered on Friday, May 21.

Miss Hirst said: "They put a thin type of wood in the doors where the glass should have been. I wasn't happy but they assured me they would be back on Tuesday to complete the work.

"Our doors are still incomplete more than ten weeks later."

Miss Hirst said her children, aged eight and three, were upset because the family had to cancel their family holiday this year because they were afraid to leave the house empty.

Her partner Lee Barnes, 29, repeatedly phoned the firm to ask when the work would be completed.

"After about four weeks we got fed up and decided to contact trading standards," said Mr Barnes, who says the brick work surrounding the door has started to crumble.

"We were starting to worry about the quality of the workmanship as well as the length of time we were being forced to wait," said Mr Barnes who works as an engineer.

Graham Hebblethwaite, divisional manager for West Yorkshire Trading Standards, said: "We have made numerous attempts to contact the company on Miss Hirst's behalf.

"We are concerned about the length of time it is taking Coldseal to follow up Miss Hirst's and other customers' complaints."

A spokesman for the company extended "sincere apologies" to the couple.

He said an inspector would be visiting them today and would ensure an engineer would complete the work without further delay.

He added: "Coldseal is dedicated to ensuring that all customer queries are resolved agreeably."
