There was a change at the head of the First Division as long-time leaders Embsay lost against Cowling and were replaced at the top by Barrowford, who overcame Haworth.

Just to prove that the previous week's defeat of Oakworth was no fluke, Cowling batted first and posted a moderate 149 for seven, Keith Woodhead leading the way with 42 as Stephen Speak claimed four for 31.

The usual fluent batting of the Shires Laners was missing, with only Simon Bailey (94) making any impression against the bowling of Martyn Dalby (5-62) and S Hassan (4-40) as his side fell 11 runs short of victory.

Barrowford entertained Haworth and were struggling at 114 for six in reply to the visitors' 181 for six. However, Glen Hargreaves (35 not out) and his brother John kept their nerve to see their side home with eight balls to spare.

Oakworth travelled to Thornton and ripped the home side out for 77, Graham Rankin taking five for 24 and Michael Scarborough four for 28, before getting home for the loss of five wickets.

Steve Welch's 47 wasn't enough to give Cullingworth victory over Foulridge, while the basement battle at Sutton went the way of visitors Haworth West End by 54 runs.

Second Division leaders Glusburn went down by seven runs at Airedale. The home side made 164, Mark Allcock scoring 48 and, despite Graham Harrison hitting 40 and Michael Hebden weighing in with 38 Glusburn fell just short.

Bingley Congs replace them at the top after seeing off Haworth Road by seven wickets at Beckfoot.

The Shipley side were dispatched for 127 thanks to Neil Copping (5-47) and Tom Greenbank (3-57) and fourth-wicket pair Chris Hemsley (42 not out) and Chris Dibb (45 not out) saw Congs to victory.

Farouk Akram was the star of the show for Sandy Lane in their six-wicket win over Gargrave in the Third Division. He took seven for 18 in eight overs as the visitors were dismissed for 117 before hitting an unbeaten 44 to see his side to maximum points.

Second-placed Crossflatts dispatched Riddlesden with ease, winning by nine wickets.

Riddlesden battled to 158 with Michael Bailey making 43 as Q Ayub claimed five for 42, and Mick Brooksbank (64) and Joe Gath (54 not out) ensured Crossflatts reached their target with few alarms.

Martin Smith made 106 as Division Four leaders Haworth Road reached 238 for seven. T Teal scored an unbeaten 62 for Congs, whose reply closed on 164 for eight.

Second-placed Pendle Forest had to work hard for the points at Cullingworth. After knocking the home side over for just 92, they lost six wickets reaching their goal.

Keighley Tech, still smarting from their defeat at the hands of Chatburn, were in no mood for a repeat at home to lowly Sutton, blasting them out for 53 with A Greenwood taking six for 20.
