It was a magical moment for a little girl made possible by the tremendous fundraising efforts of the people of Bradford.

Holly Clarke's dream came true when she snuggled up to Mickey Mouse at Disneyland Resort, Paris, while on a trip of a lifetime with her family.

Holly, aged four, who has the rare genetic condition Batten's Disease, made the journey with her parents Darren and Shirelle, ten-year-old brother Daniel, and her grandparents.

Darren, of Derwent Road, Bolton, Bradford, said: "We really enjoyed ourselves. At one point Holly was laughing so much she could hardly breathe."

The trip was a chance for Holly to meet Mickey and friends before the disease robs her of her eyesight, which is already fading.

The terminal condition means Holly has already lost her speech and cannot walk. As it progresses it will lead to a further deterioration of her brain and nervous system and will lead to an early death.

The trip last week was especially poignant as it could be the last the family get to enjoy together as Holly's grandmother Anne Clarke, who dotes on her grandaughter, has terminal cancer.

Darren added: "At first Holly didn't really know what to make of things but she soon came round and enjoyed going on quite a few of the rides.

"Daniel also had the time of his life."

The trip was made possible thanks to the efforts of Holly's parents and hundreds of people who have raised more than £14,000 for a trust fund set up in Holly's name.

The family are now preparing for a second trip, this time to meet Mickey's transatlantic cousins at Disney World in Florida in early September.

Holly has been selected by the Make a Wish Foundation to go on the trip with her parents and brother.

September will also see Holly's fifth birthday party which will be a ticket only 'pink party' held at the Railway Social Club and will raise money for Batten's research. Holly also faces a stay at Leeds General Infirmary later in September to remove a tube from her nose which will be placed in her stomach instead.

The tube allows Holly to be given drugs and liquids quickly.

Anyone who would like to support the trust can send a cheque made payable to the Holly Clarke Batten's Trust, c/o Gareth Crossland, Highfield Health Centre, 2, Proctor Street, Tong Street, Bradford, BD4 9QA.
