Halifax Town 4

The home side were given a lesson in finishing as the hard-working Northern Coun-ties East Premier Division players watched in awe as Conference outfit Halifax Town hammered in four goals.

The Shaymen, with only a handful of first-team players on show, took their chances to run out easy winners. It may have appeared a landslide

victory, but the higher-ranking visitors were tested.

Halifax rattled in three goals in a ten-minute spell in the first half to end the pre-season friendly as a contest.

Sedge rallied to peg one back,

Gareth Hamlet sliding the ball under the keeper from just inside the area after good work from Chris Walton, but conceded again in the final minute. "It flattered them without doubt," said Sedge boss Eugene Lacy. "But it was a good night for us, and I can't give Halifax Town enough credit for honouring the fixture by sending a good, strong squad.

"For a big club to do that just days before their season starts says a lot about them. They did us proud and it was a great work-out for us.

"In respect of the game, we defended badly but even so Halifax still had to score their goals and took them with ease.

"The first half was even but we went in 3-0 down - that was the difference. We played well but didn't get the luck."
