ON his home ground Bilton's Mahmood Rassool produced a match winning innings to give his side their second Waddilove Cup win on Sunday.

Bilton last won the trophy in 1996 but they came near last season when they lost out to cup specialists Guiseley in fast fading light at Ilkley.

On a slow Bilton wicket with the ball not coming on to the bat boundaries were few and far between.

However, Australian opener Lloyd Mash kept one end going with his knock of 17 and Rassool then came in at number six to step things up.

Opener Miles Corish had perished for 13 being bowled by Simon Taylor. He was replaced by former Undercliffe player Toby Drummond who hung around for a while to make 34 before he was caught by Mike Halmshaw off the bowling of Follifoot veteran Brian Smart.

Rassool then stepped up the tempo hitting a six and 3 fours to turn the game back in Bilton's favour after they had been struggling.

They eventually finished on 160-7 but their bowlers did well and Follifoot were always struggling.

Some superb fielding turned the game in Bilton's favour with three crucial run outs. Anthony Burton's throw to dismiss Michael Halmshaw and Luke Jarvis's effort to run out Neil Walker were the highlights.

Paul Angove gave Follifoot some hope when he came in with the score on 26-4 and struck 43 but he too struggled to find the boundary.

When he was joined by Nick Grainger it looked as if things could turn Follifoot's way but Mash produced a spectacular boundary edge catch to dismiss Grainger for 16. Despite Anove's efforts Follifoot could not prevent Bilton from winning the trophy.

The Man-of-the-Match award went to Rassool who added 2-27 to his 33 runs.

The only men in the Bilton side who were involved in the previous trophy win in 1996 when Bilton beat Adel by six wickets were Miles Corish and Carl Heptinstall.

For Follifoot it was another turn as the bridesmaid. In their only other Waddilove Cup final appearance in 1997 they lost by one wicket to Hall Park despite the efforts of Victor Patrick who took 7-43.

The umpires in Sunday's final were Terry Moss and Ken Wilcox, both from Pateley Bridge.

The trophies were presented by League President David Steele.
