The boys from little nine-hole Ben Rhydding Golf Club have shocked the rest in the Bradford League by shooting up four leagues in rapid succession and becoming champions of the lot. They have taken on the might of the big clubs after rising from Division Four and capped their season by becoming Division One champions.
The team was also second in the Bradford Boys' Championship and have qualified for the North East Sunday Telegraph Junior Boys final at Starbeck in September.
The three regular players are Richard Atkins, aged 15 an 11 handicapper; Edward Cowan, aged 15 a 10 handicapper; and Chris Atkins, aged 13 an 11 handicapper. Reserves who have played their part are Henry Wilson, aged 15 a 20 handicapper; and Tom Heathcote, aged 13 a 19 handicapper. Around 40 juniors practice on a Saturday morning at the club.
