Undercliffe, 18 points adrift at the bottom of Division One of the Specialist Ducting Supplies Bradford League, are rapidly running out of time in their bid to avoid relegation.

About the only good thing for the Intake Road club is that they have matches against three of the bottom six before the season finishes on Saturday, September 11.

Undercliffe are at sixth-from-bottom Idle tomorrow, then at home to fourth-from-bottom Bankfoot on August 21 and close their fixtures at East Bierley - currently fifth from bottom.

On the other hand, Chris Taylor's side still have to host leaders Pudsey Congs on August 28.

Undercliffe's cricket chairman Brian Lymbery said: "We really have to win tomorrow, and win the next three or four matches after that as well.

"Things aren't very good from our point of view, and the most disappointing thing has been the results.

"We haven't been badly beaten by anybody, but we have shown our inexperience sometimes.

"On occasions we have had the upper hand, but through our inexperience we have lost the game."

One ray of hope, however, is the form of Undercliffe's second team, who are challenging for the Division One title in their first season back in the top flight.

"We have some good young lads in the second team," said Lymbery, "and that is a good sign for the future if we can pull some of them through."

An arguably bigger clash, however, than the one at Cavendish Road is the meeting of East Bierley and second-from-bottom Mirfield at South View Road.

Yes, Mirfield are in a relegation place, but they are only a point behind Spen and three behind Bankfoot.

Mirfield's skipper Mark Fairburn said of tomorrow's clash: "It is a massive game and it is a match we need to get something out of.

"Realistically, Undercliffe are down and it is going to take something special from Chris Taylor and their overseas player Steve Phillips to get them out of there."

Fairburn added: "But we have to concentrate on catching the teams who are just above us.

"Spen Victoria, with John Wood firing on all cylinders, seem to have got their house in order now, but knowing Pudsey Congs as I do they won't be taking Spen lightly at Britannia Road tomorrow.

"With Pudsey St Lawrence breathing down their necks they can't afford to, and we are just hoping to pull Idle and East Bierley into the mix as well."

Fairburn's team selection options have improved since they did so well over the double weekend of July 24-25.

He said: "Our second team are virtually doomed to relegation from Division One so at least I can now pick people who can do something other than field, which is a big help."
