The Government has instructed the Commission for Racial Equality to operate a 15 per cent cut in its present budget. It has also warned that any extra money in the next financial year will be purely to meet inflation. The Commission chairman, Mr David Lane, himself a former Tory minister, is to meet Government ministers again in a bid to persuade them to reduce the proposed cuts.

Bradford Jazz Club members and music enthusiasts in the city will be happy to know of the success which trombonist Eddie O'Donnell is gaining in London. He first gained prominence in the musical world with the Yorkshire Jazz Band which entertains weekly meetings of the Bradford and Leeds Jazz Band Clubs. His early practising has produced results, as when London band leader Ken Colyer decided to form a new band he approached Eddie to play the trombone.
