An organisation which works with adults to boost skills and help them become more employable has had its funding renewed.

Careers West Yorkshire has been provisionally awarded a further contract by the Learning and Skills Council West Yorkshire until 2006.

The organisation operates the West Yorkshire IAG Partnership - the innovative partnership of providers of information, advice and guidance on learning and work for adults. It has just won the coveted matrix award, the industry standard for quality.

The partnership, which celebrated its first anniversary in April, offers advice on options, motivation or self-confidence building, and developing new approaches to learning and employee development.

Alison Kinder, contracts and development manager, said: "We are thrilled that our bid to renew our funding has been successful. We are working with people who need and deserve support to get them interested in and committed to education, training or work.

"We've already started some very successful projects and this funding from the Learning and Skills Council means we can continue and grow our work."

Mike Jackson, learning programmes manager at the LSC, said: "To be awarded this contract, Careers West Yorkshire produced a very strong business case in response to a national and European-wide tendering exercise which incorporated a stringent assessment process.

"Careers West Yorkshire has previously delivered a very successful and responsive service on behalf of LSC West Yorkshire.

"We are very pleased that their success in being awarded this new contract will allow us to build on and further develop what has been an extremely effective working relationship, in the interest of the people of Bradford."

Examples of the work of partnership members have included helping offenders in prison with literacy and numeracy and the creation of trade union learning centres in workplaces and the community.

It works alongside and supports locally-based organisations including Careers Bradford and has partner organisations in the public and private sectors.
