The boards which decide how Bradford's six housing trusts run their 24,000 homes have been newly elected.

The ballots held by the Bradford Community Housing Trust Group were independently overseen.

Each board has 15 members, eight of whom are tenants, and between them they guide how the service is delivered to residents.

Boards oversee regeneration and management issues, including the £175 million repair and improvement programme started last year.

Other duties include approving business plans and monitoring performance.

Martin Smith, chairman of the BCHT Group Board, said: "Board members are very important - they ensure the group stays close to what tenants want, and that's because out of the 15 people on each board, tenants have a majority, with eight members.

"I congratulate the newly-elected board members, wish them all success in helping to regenerate and improve their areas, and look forward to working with them."

Elections were overseen by an independent body, NEMS Market Research, to ensure an open and fair process.
