Did I really question the staying power of Brighouse Sports?

They dispelled any remaining doubts with an emphatic 30-0 double over Rufford A and Pudsey Ltd A in the Naylor Premier League.

Rufford, firmly nailed to the bottom of the league, were given little chance at Brighouse and struggled to amass 101 points.

However, Pudsey Ltd would have expected better and must have left Brighouse broken men after only scoring 81 points with a ten-man team.

Chris Mordue's individual average benefited greatly as the Brighouse bowler chalked up 21-5 and 21-6 victories.

Daniel Beardsworth (21-6) helped Armley Cons A continue their push for promotion in the Godwin League with a 17-13 home win over leaders Eccleshill B.

Third-placed Asa Briggs will have been hoping to put a bit more pressure on their promotion rivals after only scraping a 16-14 win at Wibsey.

Struggling Knowles A came away with an impressive 15-15 draw from Bramley Libs A. Duncan McPhail was Bramley's star man, winning 21-6.

Queensbury are finishing the season on a high, and disposed of Peel A 25-5 with Clive Austin (21-6), Darren Clare (21-7) and Graham Clare (21-9) recording single-figure wins.

Pudsey Ltd B's 20-10 defeat at Heckmondwike looks to have ended their Observer League promotion chances. Woodside A saw their chances of going up recede after a 20-10 defeat at Brighouse B and a 15-15 draw at home to Crowghyll B.

Spen Vic B are now in the driving seat for the second promotion place after a narrow 16-14 defeat at Brighouse B. Ann Billington was in devastating form for Spen, winning 21-5.

Haworth are going down fighting as they edged past Salts A 17-13 with Brian Greenwood (21-2) and Brian Haigh (21-3) in form.

The race for second place is also hotting up in the Bartle League.

Littlemoor B currently hold second spot thanks to a 21-9 win over Lister A, Kath Bywell (21-7) and Angela Carter (21-8) posting important wins.

Royd House also won 21-9 at home to Tyersal to move into third place.

However, the ones to watch are Bowling, who sit just behind with a game in hand and a considerably easier run-in.

Julie Darvill (21-6) featured for Harold Park as they went down 23-7 at Pudsey Britannia B in the Haigh League, with Mark Moorin continuing his invincible home form with a 21-4 win.

West Park have quietly sneaked into contention for promotion and their 17-13 win over leaders Stanningley did them no harm.

There was an avalanche of single-figure wins, with Sheila Holdsworth (21-6), Pauline Wilkinson (21-6) and John Metcalf (21-8) for West, and Richard Hodgson and Steve Gardener (both 21-4) for Stanningley playing at the top of their games.

Eddie Pells (21-6) and Judy Cockroft (21-5) were instrumental in Horton A's 27-3 win over West Bradford A, while Adrian Binks (21-8) was top scorer for Armley Cons B as they won 18-12 at Wyke B.

It has been rumoured that Ben Ramsden winner Paul Metcalf will now be put out to stud, and if the ability of his son Gareth is anything to go by that might not be a bad thing.

Gareth looks to have mastered the tricky Knowles green and produced a fantastic 21-8 result over Tom Cater in his side's

24-6 demolition of Guiseley B in the Riley League.

Ken Watkin had a weekend to remember for Bramley Libs, scoring a 21-3 win in a 25-5 success at Crowghyll B, and a 21-6 as Bramley beat Guiseley B 24-6.

Drighlington B clawed back a terrible start to defeat Wibsey B 19-11. James Murgatroyd finished the game off in style, winning 21-6, after Drig had been trailing by 38 points following the first four blocks.

BBA look certain of promotion in the Field Packaging League, despite going down 19-11 at Cleckheaton Sports.

Third-placed Pudsey Ltd C are only a point behind, though, after a fine 20-10 win at Peel C.

Shelf B haven't quite given up hope of escaping relegation and 21-2 wins for A Hunt and Russell Crowther sent them on their way to a 22-8 win over Horton B, while Birkenshaw enjoyed a 22-8 success at Salts B.

Tyersal B and Lister B have now emerged as favourites to go up from the Mellor League.

Lister B were convincing 25-5 winners over season-long table-toppers Greengates B, while Tyersal thrashed Guiseley C 27-3 with Florence Woodhead a 21-5 winner.

Brian Ingham was a 21-6 winner for West Bradford B in their 17-13 win over Wibsey C, and Isabel Kennedy's 21-7 couldn't prevent Horton C going down 22-8 at Brackenhill B.

After some fine wins, Queensbury C look to have captured the second promotion spot in the Moorhouse League.

Queensbury were well worth their 22-8 win at Shipley Club, Harold Robinson

(21-3) and Hazel Kershaw (21-7) in form for the away side.

Bradford Moor B were also away winners, defeating Lister C 22-8, John Pitts (21-4) and Margaret Sugden (21-5) giving Moor the perfect start.
