Farsley Celtic 1

Radcliffe Borough 1

It took Michael Midwood just 12 minutes to open his account for the Celts after waiting seven games to make his seasonal debut - but it was not enough to earn his club a much-needed home win.

Radcliffe Borough played their full part in an entertaining game that proved even difficult conditions could not spoil the occasion. They got their reward with a second- half equaliser and deservedly shared the points.

Midwood, the Celts' top scorer in the last campaign, has been forced to sit out the opening month of the Unibond League season because of a one-game ban and a six-match suspension for a sending off at Prescot Cables. He was in no mood to wait to make an impact. From his first opportunity he hit a 30-yard free-kick that took a slight deflection and looped over the Borough keeper.

The visitors' former Bradford Park Avenue striker Phil Denney levelled the scores in the 77th minute. A poor clearance from the Celts keeper handed Radcliffe the ideal opening and Denney netted.

Farsley had other chances but the closest they came was a shot from Mark Bett in the final minute that cannoned back off the bar.

The Celts were looking to leapfrog the Manchester side in the middle of the UniBond Premier Division table but they still trail Radcliffe by two points.
