A SCHEME which started off in Skipton and resulted in a number of unruly individuals being banned from entering any of the pubs in town, has now been successfully extended to include Settle.

Originally named "Skipton Town Against Night-time Disorder", the scheme has been renamed simply STAND (Stand Against Night-time Disorder) so it can encompass pubs across Craven.

STAND also has a newly elected executive committee of three local licensees who will see the scheme grow in the future.

It works by licensees signing up to the scheme and agreeing to prohibit entry to anyone banned from another pub in the scheme. All 22 pubs in the Settle district are now members and display the logo in their doorways.

Settle-based PC Graham Wilson, who is responsible for administrating the paperwork side of the scheme in the Settle district, said he was pleased with the way all the licensees had taken the initiative on board and supported one another in its implementation.

"Every one of the pubs has signed up, including the rugby and cricket clubs and the licensees are co-ordinating the scheme mostly themselves. All the police do is the administration for it.

"It is because they are all involved that it is working so well and we appreciate their efforts," he said.
