HISTORY will be made in local bowling when the first ever Yorkshire Final comes to Cross Hills on Sunday.

It will be the first time a county final has been held in the Skipton League area and the competition, the E F Cockroft Yorkshire handicap gets underway at 11am when 32 hopefuls come 'under orders'.

Local hopes rest with Rob Ellis, Craig Smith, Derek Burgess and homester Phillip Dowgill who will have to concede an extra start all round. Large local support will be appreciated.

The other bowling attraction on Sunday is the last game in the Valleys Federation match against close rivals Hebden Royd with the home leg at Steeton starting at 2pm. The team have done well in Division Five and are second behind South Lancashire. A good effort should see them consolidate their position. The away team travels to Luddenden Foot.

Stuart Myers (Whinfield) added the Norman Johnston Floodlit Trophy Handicap title to his Skipton Merit Final success when he defeated Steeton's David Fairless 21-14 in a close game at Gargrave. Losing in the semis were holder Richard Perry and an unlucky Colin Wortley.

The Veterans Doubles at Keighley BC, sponsored by Thomas Sanderson Blinds, saw a full field in action throughout the day. At the end of a long season Bob Scott and Keith Coppen landed the spoils with a narrow 21-18 win over Silsden PF's Alan Pennington and Eric Inman. The photo call the following day was marred by vandalism to the club's buildings.

Oxenhope failed in their bid for a league and cup double in the Wednesday Aire-Wharfe event. They were beaten by a strong Rufford Park team at Menston and boasted only two winners. At the same venue however, Addingham achieved their double in Division Two with an easy cup win over Horsforth Cons.

Oxenhope B gained compensation for the club by winning the Hebden Bridge Third Division title ahead of Cullingworth B.

In the final Valley Veterans Tables Silsden PFA are Division One Champions ahead of Keighley A. Devon and Whins Wood are relegated.

Addingham are the Division Two Champions after a play-off with Silsden PF B who are also promoted. Oakworth finished a creditable third while Cross Hills B and Highfield go down.

Silsden and Denholme are promoted from Division Three.

The Veterans Cup finals are to be held at Broughton Road on Monday.

The Skipton Mixed doubles rounded off the competition season in the Skipton League and saw an easy 21-7 win for Craig and Julie Walsh of Cross Hills who defeated holder Roy Littlewood and Jean Smith on a wet, dismal night at Broughton Road. Losing in the semi-finals were Colin and Win Wortley, Walter and Eve Turner.

Cross Rods A clinched the Halifax Division One title with a good effort away to their nearest challengers Lancton. Sadly they lost to the sae team in the second round of the British Parks Championship held in the Wirral area four days later.

Oakworth confirmed their second place in Division Three away at King Cross when Roy Sanderson won his 19th consecutive game in the league to provide an assist. The poor lad lost only one game - the first of the season - to his old pal Robert Taylor.
