Chorley 2

Guiseley 1

FA Cup specialists Guiseley are out of the competition for this season after losing to a side a division lower than them in the UniBond League.

Guiseley have a good recent record in the world's oldest knock-out competition but a poor first half in last night's first qualifying round replay cost them dearly.

Failure to progress to the next round has cost the club a potential cash windfall. More worrying is that after losing their unbeaten start to the season in a 4-1 defeat at Bridlington Town, they have now gone three games without a win.

But Guiseley have only themselves to blame after creating enough chances in the second period to win the game handsomely.

The first half presented just two openings, both to former Bantam Mark Stuart.

He saw a header saved following a cross from Stuart Airdrie and had a left-foot shot deflected wide minutes later.

Airdrie and Simon Parke both had chances after the break but the home side opened the scoring just before the hour through Danny Queeley.

Parke was then denied in contentious circumstances when a header that hit the bar and bounced down looked to be over the line but was not given.

Illingworth had provided the pinpoint cross for that chance but later he put a header wide from a Stuart free- kick and Pete Sumner was also close to netting.

Neil Smith doubled Chorley's lead in the 72nd minute but Stuart rammed home a goal from the spot four minutes later after a handball in a crowded area.

It led to a nail-biting climax as the visitors sought a winner but despite Stuart, David Cooke and Sumner all going close to forcing extra-time, the equaliser proved elusive.
