MORE than 120 people have objected to housing and office plans for the former Silver Cross works at Guis-eley.

The scheme for 100 flats, two four storey office blocks, a two storey extension to an existing office block, and 28 units designed for working and living, is due to be discussed by planners today.

And at today's meeting of Leeds City Council's Plans Panel West, councillors will be asked if they want to raise any issues before a full report is made at a future panel meeting.

Main access to the development will be off Back Lane with another one for the offices off Otley Road.

The live work units will have three bedrooms with ground floor office space and outside parking, while the 100 flats will range from one to three bedrooms each with one parking space mostly provided in an undercroft.

In a report to the panel, planning officers point out that so far there has been one letter in support of the development and 126 objections, including a letter from Aireborough MP Paul Truswell.

Objections include the development being out of character with the area, the likely increase of traffic on the A65, the inadequacy of the train network and inadequate services in the area.

People have also said there is not enough affordable housing, that the four storey element is too high, that the development is too much for the site and that it will mean the loss of a potential employment site.

Councillor Graham Latty (Con, Guiseley and Rawdon) also points out that traffic issues need to be looked at carefully and the possible inclusion of traffic lights at Back Lane, Otley Road and a new crossing at Otley Road.
