THE parents of Earby man Darren Myers who died after an incident outside a nightclub in the early hours of Saturday have spoken of their misery at losing a son who was liked by everyone.

Gerald and Beryl Myers, of Water Street, said they were still in shock after their son died from head injuries following an alleged attack at the Good Nightclub, Nelson.

Mr and Mrs Myers were on a caravan holiday in Blackpool when they received a call from a neighbour to say their son was in hospital.

Darren, 38, who was discovered unconscious at around 1.30am, was taken to Burnley General Hospital where he died at 12.20pm the same day.

Mrs Myers, 66, said: "We were there 20 minutes before he died."

She added: "The hardest thing to come to terms with is the tragedy of it all. Darren had faults but he didn't deserve to die. He was really gentle."

The couple's other son, Andrew, died in Sierra Leone while serving in the army in 1995.

Darren, who worked at C&C Engineering, in Nelson, also leaves a sister Angela Norris and a one-year-old daughter.

* Nightclub doorman, Phillip Powell, 33, of Leamington Street, Nelson, appeared before Burnley magistrates on Monday charged with murdering Mr Myers. He was remanded in custody until a preliminary hearing at Preston Crown Court on September 27.

Head doorman Stephen Love, 44, of Rowland Avenue, and former bouncer Barry Evanson, 45, of Southfield Square, both Nelson, have both been charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice. Both were given conditional bail.
