Storms savage Halifax next Friday in the latest musical adaptation of a classic play by the Shakespeare 4 Kidz theatre company.

The Tempest recreates a storm, a shipwreck and enchanted island held under the spell of Prospero in the show aimed at junior and secondary school students.

The former Duke of Milan has spent 12 years in exile planning revenge on his wicked brother, drawing him to the island where he can be tormented to hilarious effect.

The cast mixes modern-day English with Shakespearean verse to present an understandable version of the tale of magic, vengeance, romance, fatherly love and the misuse of power.

n Keighley-based entertainment promoter Trevor Wilson is taking professional ballet to Ilkley for the first time in two decades.

He has booked Independent Ballet Wales to perform Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty in a production drawing on old and new ballet styles.

Trevor said the December 15 show at the King's Hall would be an ideal introduction to classical ballet for young people as well as an invigorating alternative to tired old classics.

He said IBW was one of the UK's top touring ballet companies, boasting the finest storytelling and characterisation as well as vibrant sets and stunning costumes.

n Keighley Vocal Union performs a charity concert with instrumentalists from Bingley Grammar School on Saturday October 2.
