Louis Haley rode to 22nd place in the tough European Motocyclistes Union international Youth trial at Tossa de Mar, Spain, on his 125cc Beta machine.

The contest formed part of the European and World Women's championship series and included youth riders in age groups up to 14 years and from 15 to 17.

Fourteen year-old Louis competed in the Under-17 class with some distinction.

Wilmslow rider Alexz Wigg won the 14 year-old class and with it the European Youth title.

The trial included just about all the top youngsters from all parts of Europe and was staged on the banks of the Mediterranean sea near Barcelona where the temperatures soared into the 90s.

The young riders had to negotiate tricky rocky poitcrops with the sea performinga spectacular back drop.

Burley-in-Wharfedale's Haley was accompanied by fellow Yeadon-Guiseley District Motor Club member Jack Challoner, from Halifax, who finished twelfth.

Louis, a pupil at Ilkley Grammar School, contested the British Youth championship earlier this year finishing a very creditable eighth overall out of 20 contestants from nationwide.
