Bramhope 8

Addingham 0

After the previous two weeks poor results in the league Bramhope turned up in a determined mood for this Harrogate League Challenge Cup tie.

The league fixture earlier this season had finished 1-1 so everyone was expecting a similarly close game. However, Bramhope produced one of their best ever performances to see off an average Addingham team.

Bramhope played wonderful pass and move football with a great pace and passion that Addingham could not cope with.

Without Jonathon Nichols Nick Draper partnered the returning Iain Hall in the centre of defence. Both players looked cool, calm and collected at most times with Hall in particular having an inspired match bringing the ball out of defence.

Indeed the whole of the Bramhope defence played well with Paul Dobson and Jonathon Baxter offering good width to the team at full back.

Robert Murphy and David Brindle at left and right midfield respectively, were back on form with Brindle terrorising the defence with his pace and Murphy with his inch perfect killer passes.

The game was dominated in the centre of the park by Phil Wilman and an outstanding Andy Dutton. Up front Craig Smyth and Ian Broadhead were too much for Addingham to handle with Broadhead's strength and presence and Smyth's tenacity causing problems all afternoon. Indeed the first goal was created by a brilliant Hall run breaking out of defence with the ball and playing a killer ball to Dutton who saw his shot parried by the 'keeper only to be followed up by Smyth who finished well.

The second goal was set up by a great cross from Paul Dobson which was flicked on by Murphy and finished by Ian Broadhead.

Before half-time Bramhope made it 3-0 after a ball from Dutton was flicked on by Broadhead for Brindle to outpace the defence and finish coolly.

The second-half started very much where the first had left off when indescion in the Addingham defence left Broadhead to finish well for his second of the game.

Bramhope quickly followed this up with their fifth when Murphy played a wonderful through pass to Phil Wilman who played an inch perfect cross to Dutton who finished well. Indeed Dutton got the sixth after another assist from Broadhead.

At this stage James Nichols came on as substitute for Brindle and within minutes made his presence known with a contender for goal of the season. Nichols 25 yards from goal turned and shot the into the top corner for 7-0.

A great day for Bramhope was rounded off when Smyth ran almost the length of the field, played a one-two with Murphy and finished from a very tight angle.

This rounded off a great performance from him which resulted in him receiving the match point.
