Wakefield-Emley 1

Guiseley 3

Following a dismal five match run in which they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Chorley and failed to notch a victory Guiseley manager Neil Parsley and new chairman Rob Northfield have acted quickly to bring in new faces.

Midfielder Jonathan Hunt was signed on loan from Coca Cola League Two side Scunthorpe United and he made his debut in Saturday's 3-2 reverse at Burscough.

He was joined in the team on Tuesday night by former Harrogate Town defender Michael Ord and he formed a formidable central defensive partnership with James Stansfield.

They won virtually everything in the air and with Hunt working hard in midfield, providing the touch missing since Jeremy Illingworth and Richard Chattoe fell off form, Guiseley were firing on all cylinders.

They ran Wakefield-Emley ragged in the first-half and only an excellent performance by their goalkeeper prevented Guiseley from taking a four or five goal lead.

Peter Sumner was powering through from midfield unleashing some real bombs while Simon Parke, David Cooke and Mark Stuart were constantly thwarted by the 'keeper's heroics but they kept battling.

Parke gave Guiseley the lead in the 37th minute after an assist from Ord but the big Guiseley support in a spartan crowd wondered of it was all going to go wrong again when the home side levelled just after the break throughSteve Kenworthy.

They had seen their side go two goals up at Burscough on Saturday only to squander their lead and end up 3-2 losers.

Guiseley however had more resolve in defence and the midfield of Hunt, Sumner, Stuart and Neil Grayston worked their socks off to create chances.

The full of running David Cooke earned reward for his efforts with a second goal for Guiseley but perhaps the biggest cheer of the night was for the final strike by substitute Jeremy Illingworth.

A big favourite with the Guiseley supporters Illingworth pleased them with his strike. Will it signal a return to form for last season's Player-of-the-Year? The Guiseley crowd certainly hope so.

Assistant manager Clive Freeman said: "The five games before this we played poor but I am pleased that the lads stuck to their task. We played well and had a bit too much for Emley on the night."

In the Wakefield-Emley dug out was former Guiseley assistant manager Phil Sharpe who recently relinquished his post as manager of Frickley Athletic.

In Saturday's game at Burscough Guiseley took a 2-0 lead through David Cooke and Simon Parke.

On Saturday Guiseley entertain Bishop Auckland in a re-arranged fixture and the Reserves travel to Vauxhall. The UniBond League clash with Workington has been moved from Saturday to Friday, October 8 due to the England international. They will also now entertain Blyth on Saturday, October 16.
