Pertemps Bees 32

Otley 19

Despite coming away from divisional leaders Pertemps Bees pointless, Otley can be pleased with the way they played the last quarter for so far this season they have failed to match their performances of last year.

They began by still making the basic errors which are quickly punished at this level, so the home side took full advantage to score a couple of first-half tries when Otley's marking fell below standard.

Fly half Tim Walsh kicked an early penalty, which was eventually matched by Simon Binns - back to form with a 100 per cent success rate - before in the 18th minute, right winger Lenny Woodward got over in the corner, Walsh converting.

Two more penalties from Binns brought Otley back into the game, but a break by Walsh from line-out possession ended with centre Simon Martin going in at the posts, providing a simple conversion. However, Binns struck a fourth penalty just before half-time.

Reduced to 14 men when Kris Fullman received a yellow card, Otley fell further behind when hooker Matt Miles was driven over and Walsh added a second penalty. But they fought back well and when Jason Oakes drove over in the corner and Binns converted they had the confidence to go for the win, only to concede another score which denied them their bonus point.

Attacking from the re-start, they were held on halfway and when the referee appeared to be about to whistle for the home side handling in the ruck, both sides stood still, apart from replacement scrum half Tom Richardson who sped away to the posts, the conversion concluding the game.
