Altrincham 4

Farsley Celtic 1

The Celts took the lead at Moss Lane but were dumped out of the FA Cup at the second qualifying round stage after a brace from Altrincham striker Marcus Hollows turned the tie.

Even the Conference North side admitted that the final scoreline flattered them but that was cold comfort to Celts boss Lee Sinnott, especially after his side had had a goal chalked off that would have made it 2-2 with 20 minutes left.

"If we had drawn or scraped a win we still wouldn't have been happy because it was a bad day at the office. We didn't see the Farsley Celtic that we all know," said Sinnott.

"We didn't win enough personal battles on the field. Three or four have done all they could and that's all. I have been here long enough to know that the players and myself think alike.

"I didn't go into the dressing room and start throwing tea cups around because I saw how disappointed they all were and how much the defeat hurt them. We will go again at Whitby Town in the league on Wednesday."

Roy Stammer put the Celts in front midway through the first half but they only enjoyed three minutes in the ascendancy. Altrincham hit back through Hollows and the same man put the home side in front after profiting from a tight offside call.

There was no such fortune for Stammer when he had the ball in the net for a second time and as the visitors pushed the home side caught them with a late double whammy. Eddy Hussin netted the home side's third nine minutes from the end and just into stoppage time Colin Little added the fourth.

"We are out but I would like to pass on congratulations to Liversedge," added Sinnott.

"We played Prescot Cables last week and they are a good side so it was a great result for them."
