Bradford is to take part in a major national business event which will see successful entrepreneurs share some of the secrets of their success.

About 6,000 businesspeople from across the UK are to take part in the DTI Living Innovation event, with Bradford hosting the West Yorkshire element.

The event, on Tuesday, October 12, at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, will see more than 20 venues around the UK involved in the interactive satellite broadcast.

The Bradford audience will watch the national debate, to be chaired by BBC presenter Fiona Bruce, featuring Simon Woodroffe of YO! Sushi and biotechnology expert and successful entrepreneur, Sir Christopher Evans.

That will be followed by a live discussion featuring a West Yorkshire panel including Bradford business leaders Darren Allison, of Clearwater Collection, and Darren Stega-Jones, of inphi.net new media. They will be joined by Mark Wardman, of Leeds-based Forge Technology.

The theme of this year's event is to 'inspire, innovate and connect' entrepreneurs.

Bradford Chamber of Commerce, which has organised the event for the past three years, said it had proved popular with the district's business people.

Chamber president Roland Clark, a partner with accountants Horwath Clark Whitehill, said: "Getting inside the minds of such high calibre innovators is a rare opportunity and one that many are taking advantage of.

"It only takes a seed of an idea or a moment of inspiration to spur you on to great things so we're looking forward to an evening of ideas, motivation and debate."

A spokesman for sponsors Yorkshire Forward added: "Innovation is a vital element for companies wishing to stay competitive in the current economic climate. It enables knowledge to be exploited through the development of new products, processes, services or business models."

The speakers and debate will be followed by a networking event.

Graham Telling, of the DTI, said: "Innovation is about turning great ideas into commercially viable, added value products and services.

"The event will inspire companies to become more innovative and point them in the direction of people willing to help."

The event is free to attend, however there is a £10 returnable deposit to be paid. For details, telephone (01274) 230050 or e-mail events@bradfordchamber.co.uk
