Sheffield University 1

In a close fought match on grass the final result was a 1-1 draw, however this only tells part of the story.

The first-half belonged to Sheffield although a well-taken goal by Chris Sunderland meant they went into half- time 1-1.

In the second-half Ben Rhydding played some great hockey with Chris Sunderland, John Hornby and Noel Hutton (both super vets) putting some serious work down the right hand side.

Rhydding had three shots saved off the line and countless shots well saved but were unable to score a winner.

The final score could easily have been 4-4 but in the end both defences played their part in this enjoyable contest.

The men's sixth team went down 6-1 to Leeds with their consolation goal coming from J Jordan.

Scarborough 1

Ben Rhydding Badgers, welcoming back their star striker from last year Peter Grummitt, were up against a very strong physical Scarborough team.

Tempers flared in the first-half but was excellently controlled by the two referees Ian People and Peter Richardson.

Scarborough went one up with a well-taken short corner to lead at half- time.

Youngsters Steven Timperley, Jo Drackard, Connor Dowley and Man- of-the-Match Stuart Raw all showed their mettle and had excellent games.

Norman Borrett equalised with a great strike from a short corner and despite several chances for both sides a draw was a fair result.

The men's eighth team lost 7-0 at home to York University Seconds.
