Park Amateurs 4 Keighley Town 26 - Town pulled out all the stops to bring home the spoils from their trip to Park Amateurs.

Facing a large pack Town showed their worth with some tremendous cover tackling as they soaked up heavy pressure. Neil Kennedy followed up his own high kick putting the Parks full back under pressure. He dropped the ball allowing Kennedy to gather and dive over the line with Jason Barnes tagging on the extras.

The game again became deadlocked and it took two brilliant pieces of rugby for Town to break through. In the first man of the match Quentin Snegyn took on the defence from acting half and beat four men to touch down. The second saw Kennedy cross for his second try after opening up the defence with a dummy move.

Jason Barnes converted both tries to give Town a 18-0 lead at the break.

The second half was a re-run of the first with Parks heavy forwards battering town's line. Powerful runs from Jason 'Daddy' Benn and Jamie 'Baby' Benn got them within range for Rocky McNulty to brush aside tackles and feed Dave Lewis for the 48-year-old to fall over the line and Jason Barnes added the conversion.

Parks only score was a hotly disputed try but Barnes completed the scoring with a penalty to make it five league wins from five for the Town.

Silsden Park Rangers 10

New Earswick All Blacks 38

The All Blacks may be favourites to win Division Two of the Pennine League but they were in for a shock if they expected an easy ride on their first trip to Cobbydale.

Within minutes they were shocked into top gear as Silsden had the better of early exchanges. They took the lead after a high tackle from New Earswick's Dave Carling.

From the resulting tap penalty Tony Fella forced the break, and great backing up by Neil Jordan allowed him to run in under the sticks and Andy Bowness kicked the easiest of conversions.

New Earswick struck back with a kick over the top collected by the speedy Phil Turpin who outpaced the cover, but the try was ruled out for offside. Silsden went further ahead when inventive scrum half Jon Gwilliam chipped over the top, only to be taken out by an illegal tackle. Andy Bowness added the penalty to make it 8-0 after 20 minutes.

Silsden's discipline let them down, and the York side got on the scoreboard after Silsden gave away a needless penalty for a high tackle. Tempers flared and both number 11's were given 10 minutes in the sin-bin. This was the catalyst the visitors needed and they ran in three tries before Silsden could strike back with an Andy Bowness penalty to give a half time score of 10-20.

Both sides came out in very determined mood, but it was the visitors who took control and gave Silsden very few chances in attack and scored three tries, two converted, and a penalty to run out convincing winners.

Sixteen-year-old Lee Shaw was voted Silsden's man of the match by New Earswick's coach Simon Barnes whilst ex York professional Alan Pallister was New Earswick's top performance.

Silsden will need to muster more new troops if they are to challenge for promotion this year, having had only one substitute on the bench for this match. They are away to league leaders Newsholme Panthers tomorrow (Saturday), kick off 2.30.

Keighley Town A 14

Rotherham 34

A young Town team pulled out all the stops against a team three divisions higher up the rankings.

In the first 15 minutes they could have been mistaken for the higher division outfit but were unable to capitalise on their chances.

They only managed a Jamie Donelly penalty before they allowed the much bigger Rotherham team to get on a roll and rack up 22-points by half time.

Town began the second half much like the first with powerful runs from Metcalf, Spencer, Partridge and Ahmed while the half back combination of Barrell, Paton and Donelly began to open gaps in the Rotherham defence.

Baker was held up just short of the line as were Gall and Melvin before Town moved the ball out to the opposite win for young Scott Pilling to dive over for a try on his debut. Donelly added the extras.

Town once again allowed Rotherham too much ball and spent the next 10 minutes defending their line before Rotherham grabbed a try.

In a hectic end-to-end period Burns was stopped just short before Rotherham scored again as their extra size and weight took its toll on the Town defence.

Parker side-stepped the defence and raced 70 yards to touch down under the posts with donelly once again adding the extra two points.

The young team can take great credit from their performance and are at home again tomorrow (Saturday) against top of the table side Guiseley.
