Bridlington Town 0
Farsley Celtic 2
The Celts climbed to fourth in the UniBond Premier Division with a victory on the east coast but they had to grind out the result against a Bridlington Town side struggling at the opposite end of the table.
It was a fifth win on the bounce for the in-form Celts but they needed some words of encouragement from manager Lee Sinnott at half-time.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 65th minute as Mark Bett showed his scoring
instinct. An initial shot from Mick Midwood was blocked but Bett latched on to the loose ball to volley the Celts in front.
Midfielder Roy Stammer added the second with a trademark drive from the edge of the area. Curtis Bernard had sent in a crossfield pass which he controlled before lashing his shot into the bottom corner.
"The first half was poor as a spectacle. We had a little talk during the interval but there were no tea cups flying," said Sinnott.
"I just said to them that the game was there to win if they wanted it enough. We got the result we wanted but it was hard earned.
"I was pleased with their application and pleased for Roy. He has been due a goal and he worked really hard. Mark Bett has been working like a Trojan without getting the goals so it was nice for him to be on the scoresheet.
"Forwards go through these stages. Middy is going through it at the moment but we all know he will come out the other side and start scoring again."
