Guiseley Rangers 19

Undercliffe 35

GUISELEY Rangers lost this derby cup game but the patched up Guiseley side really did give the visitors a big fright in the second-half.

Rangers were poor in the first-half tackling was not up to scratch, gaping hoples were left and the visitors exploited them

Five tries were conceded to a solitary Dave Taylor effort for Rangers.

Down but not out Rangers provided a great second-half revival. Looking the part in their new sponsored strip they tore into the visitors and both Darren Clayton and Stuart Patchett crossed for excellent scores. Scott Wade kicked three goals and with Taylor adding a field goal the gap was closed.

Rangers did not look like a side two divisions below their opponents and they really did excel. They went close on a number of occasions but in the end it was not to be but all credit to them for their second-half display.

Sadly for Rangers their stalwart prop Craig Adamson announced after the game that he is to retire. He has struggled with a bad shoulder injury for the last few months. Craig has been a very good clubman, totally committed to the cause and he will be sadly missed. He will now be welcomed onto the coaching staff.

On Saturday Rangers return to league action when they entertain Keighley Town A at Nunroyd kicking-off at 2 pm.

The Under-14s gave a very disappointing performance at Elland losing 62-0.

l On Sunday they entertain Royds from Bradford kicking-off at 11.30 am.

The Under-12s were also disappointing in their defeat at home to Littleborough. Rangers were let down by the basics. They never got to grips with the tackling and all in all a few players just did not perform. They did manage to score two very good tries by Luke Mitchell and Nathan Thompson.

On Sunday the Under-12s entertain Huddersfield Sharks kicking-off at 10.30 am.

The Under-10s travelled to Elland with a short team. Their hosts loaned them some players but even though the players never stopped trying they were heavily beaten. Daniel Haresign managed to score a try for Rangers.

The Under-10s visit Halifax Vandals on Sunday, players meet at the ground at 10.15 am.

The Under-9s hosted Slaithwaite Saracens and in a nailbiting game were narrowly beaten 24-30. Alex Hobson (2), Adam Laycock (2) and McCauley Lee scored the tries and Adam Laycock and Sam Thurston each kicked a conversion.

In the end it boiled down to missing tackles at vital times but the game was thoroughly entertaining with both sides putting in plenty of effort.
