A mother whose daughter was a victim of sex grooming by adult men in Keighley has called for a "safe house" for young women in the same plight.

The identity of the mother of four cannot be revealed because her daughter, now 16, is a witness in a police investigation.

But she spoke of her family's ordeal at the inaugural meeting of FACE -- Families Against Child Exploitation in Keighley.

The organisation -- backed by the Keighley News -- has been formed to provide a support group for families involved in similar grooming.

She said: "These girls eventually want to break away and get out of the situation, but there is nowhere for them to go."

Her daughter became involved with a group of Asian men in Keighley, aged just 12. She is now 16 and back home in Keighley and has a job after spending two years in care.

The meeting was attended by police, representatives of social services, of Keighley MP Ann Cryer and voluntary groups.

It was called by Jean Gee, who works for the Keighley-based Russell Street Project, whose job involves supporting vulnerable youngsters.

Police launched an investigation into the allegations in 2002. Mrs Cryer claimed that gangs of Asian men were grooming girls, some as young as 11, to have sex with them.

According to her office it had a list of 60 men alleged to have lured young girls into the ring.

Since August, 2003, nine men and one woman has been charged with offences, including rape, indecent assault, witness intimidation and threats to kill.
