MEMBERS of Branshaw Golf Club have been celebrating the 25th anniversary of the opening of their clubhouse.

The building, which is a popular social centre, opened in November 1979 and replaced an old wooden 'shack'.

During the club's presentation night last weekend club President Mr P G Ripley, thanked all those involved in the initial development. Most of those involved are still members of the club and include Mr D Johnson who was President, Mr H Taylor, Captain, and Mr G. Nairn who was House Chairman and became project manager for the project.

Peter Wood's company did the building and the new steward and stewardess were Mr Phil Buxton, last year's President, and Mrs Anita Buxton, the current Lady Captain.

Mr Ripley reminded those at the presentation night that the club's centenary was fast approaching and one suggestion that had been made to celebrate this event was to consider a further extension to the building.

Bracken Ghyll - Lightning struck twice at the 145 yard 10th last week with Jon Stones celebrating his appointment as Captain of next season's Scratch team with a hole in one. It was a feat matched at the same hole by Graham Wild a week later.

In Division 1 of the November Stableford, David Enion continued in good form, taking first place with 34 points off a 10 handicap, with newly elected Seniors Captain George Burrell (13) second with 33 and Oliver Naylor third with 32, also off 13. Division 2 saw Nick Gledhill (26) finish ahead of Paul Marklew (20) on countback, both scoring 39 points, from Roger Lucas (16) on 38.

In the Weekday Stableford, played in cold, windy conditions, Willi Michiels' excellent 40 points of his 20 handicap was only just enough to see off Andrew Hunter (12) on countback, with the ubiquitous David Enion third on 36.

The cold, wet weather affected scoring in the November Seniors Stableford, with three players heading the list on 32 points. The result was a win for Derek Smith (27) on countback from Eric Stevenson (28) and John Walker (24).

Branshaw - 4BBB Stableford: 1 Alan Thornton and Alec Leeming 49pts, 2 Martin Rendell and Steve Smith 48pts, 3 John Head and Brian Ley 47pts.
