Keighley Albion 30, Illingworth 26 - Albion turned on a superb performance despite being without several regular first team players with long term injuries.

Current Premier Division leaders Illingworth had lost only once this season, but were beaten by four points in a tight game full of good old fashioned Albion pride.

The Keighley side were 10 points adrift after an hour but prevailed with the help of tries in the last 15 minutes from full back Steve Cullen and hooker Richard Hollins.

Prop Danny Bowness who converted all but one of his team's tries and sealed a memorable victory with a late penalty - his fifth kick of the day. New dad Chris Atkins celebrated with a try as did Gary Boocock and Simon Kelk who also crossed for earlier touchdowns.

The Albion forwards dominated from the start with special praise to Bowness, Bellamy, Boocock and Hollins who received excellant support from Blackburn, Cullen and the youngster Earle.

However this was an all round team performance of which they should be proud.

Albion must now build on the win for tomorrow's home fixture against struggling Victorial Rangers, kick off 2.00pm at Highfiled.

Cowling 26

Wetherby 24.

After a request from Wetherby for an early kick off the Cowling team and the referee were ready to go at 1pm but the Wetherby team was delayed the game did not start until nearly 2.30.

Mick Egan started well for Cowling with an individual try in the corner before Wetherby replied a converted try.

Tom Booker finished off a superb spell for Cowling with a great try followed shortly after by a cracker from Andy Higgins who was put in by Ali Feather. Dave Needham kicked both conversions to give cowling a 16-6 lead at the break.

Feather scored for Cowling just after the restart but after playing some of their best rugby of the season they were blitzed by an amazing performance from Micky Lyons and Andy Wilks. They scored 18 points in the next 20 minutes to put Wetherby into a 24-20 lead.

With just three minutes to go the Quins heads were down and that elusive win looked beyond them. Mick Egan at last managed to force his way over and left Dave Needham, nursing a badly injured arm, needing to make the conversion to snatch victory.

Cowling's man of the match was tackle machine Wayne Verity.

Woodhouse 34

Keighley Town A 16

Woodhouse showed why they are pushing for promotion and are unbeaten so far this season.

The hard physical battle tooks its toll on a gutsy town who ended the match with just 12 fit players on the pitch.

From the kick off they had to work overtime to hold a fast and physical Woodhouse side, but what the town team lacked in size and weight they made up for in heat an unshakable team sspirit.

Eventually woodhouse wore down the Town defence to score two quick tries, butyet again Town fought back with a try before injuries started to take their toll.

Woodhouse took their tally to 28 points but Town regroups and in the second half and scored after a neat chip over the top from Paton whcih Barrett chased and out-paced the Woodhouse defence. Ahmed added the extra two points.

Despite a further Woodhouse score Town refused to give up and Ahmed slipped through the defence before slipping the ball to Barrett who popped it back inside to Parker. A Paton finally put Partridge through to score a superb try which man of the match Ahmed converted.

Once again Spencer, Parker and Paton shone.
