The West Riding County Cup quarter-final clash between close UniBond Premier Division rivals Farsley Celtic and Guiseley could not be better poised.

The two clubs had differing fortunes in league action at the weekend with the Celts losing their unbeaten 14-match run while Guiseley won for the first time in seven attempts.

Lee Sinnott's Farsley will be hungry for a win while Neil Parsley's Guiseley are desperate to build on Saturday's victory to re-ignite their season.

"I am looking for a positive reaction from the players, you don't become a bad team overnight and we don't want people to start feeling sorry for themselves," said Celts manager Sinnott.

"We want as many of the players who are available that were involved in Saturday's defeat to get back out on to the pitch as soon as possible and rediscover that winning feeling.

"It is hard to play football while you are getting paid for it and keep a smile on your face. It is too intense for that. But I want to see players enjoying it because then they will rise to the challenge.

"I had hoped we would progress in the UniBond League Cup but we lost in the last eight of that competition. We want to bring some silverware to the club every season. Success breeds success."

The League Cup defeat was followed by Saturday's loss in the league so the Celts find themselves in the unfamiliar position of trying to stave off a third defeat on the trot.

"This will be the biggest of our meetings with our local rivals this season," said Parsley.

"This competition is notorious for the crowds staying away in the earlier rounds but there is added spice to it this time and a place in the last four is up for grabs. I'm not daft, I have been around this neck of the woods long enough to know that league position or current form doesn't make a jot of difference in a fixture like this.

"With it being a winner-take-all cup tie it will be even more of a lottery. Us ending a barren spell at the weekend and Farsley losing will have no bearing on this match.

"Farsley Celtic are a very, very good side and Lee has a sharp professional attitude. I have a lot of respect for him and what he has built up in a short space of time. If we don't perform to the best of our abilities we won't stand a chance tonight."

Farsley may hand a debut to Liversedge midfielder Chris Walton, who has dual registration as part of the agreement between Sedge and the Celts. Guiseley have on-loan Bradford City defender Sam Denton available but winger Liam Flynn has not been given clearance to play by the Bantams.
