Queensbury gained a vital win in the battle to avoid relegation and at the same time put a huge dent in Clayton's title hopes with an 18-8 success in the Pennine League Premier Division derby at the Lidget Green Oval.

Clayton edged in front with a John Parkinson penalty and a try from stand off Scott Pendlebury - Parkinson again on target with the extras. Bury's veteran packman Gary Prentice pegged them back when he reached the whitewash. The score at the break was 8-4.

Queensbury then had use of the slope and former Keighley Cougar centre Gareth Hobson sprinted over from 30 metres. Stuart Calvert added the conversion.

Scrum half Carl Smith was rewarded for his massive contribution with a clever solo effort and Luke Cooper made the game safe with the final score of the afternoon.

Birkenshaw are two points adrift in next-to-bottom spot following a disappointing 38-14 home defeat by Siddal.

Early possession counted for nothing and they could only muster a try from Mickey Glenn which was converted by Andy Hirst before they changed ends 14-6 down.

Birky hit back with tries from Morton Robinson and Aaron Godward but a late Siddal surge saw them run out convincing winners. In Division One, Keighley Town dropped valuable promotion points when they lost 16-12 at home to St Josephs. A try in the final ten minutes to the visitors lost them the points.

Queensbury A made sure of another season in Division Two with a well-earned 20-12 home win over bottom club Elland A.

Bury scored tries through Richard Baldy, Damian Smith and Chris Cannon. Tom Middleton scored a try and kicked two conversions.

All three local contenders for the Division Four crown enjoyed success.

Leaders Wyke gave old rivals Brighouse Rangers A the run-around 39-6 at Towngate. The black and whites crossed the chalk seven times through Matt Whitam, Paul Coates (2), Liam Hay, Mark Frith, Mick Evans and Barry McShera. Paul Coates kicked five convertions and a drop goal.

Undercliffe are still unbeaten at home and are handily placed in third spot with games in hand after a 36-10 win against Birkenshaw A.

Andrew Feely was a revelation in his new role at stand off and he set up tries for Johnny Hotham (2), Roland Padgett (2), Lee Nellist and Matt Pitman.

A spectacular interception from Alex Scargill completed the scoring.

Thornton are not out of the race in fourth spot. They won 38-14 at home to Slaithwaite Saracens. Kelvin Daulat (2), Johnny Marshall (2), Ben Southgate (2) and Jim Fleming all reached the whitewash and Harvey Bamford slotted over five conversions.

Bank Top Harriers are still undefeated in Division Five after putting York Groves to the sword 48-0.

Centre Jason Gelders scored a hat-trick and Carl Brian (2), Kevin Simpson, Cameron Nelson, Matt Harrison and Craig French also crossed leaving Bob Brown to put over five of the extras.

West Bowling B would have settled for the 24-24 draw at leaders Selby before the kick-off but they were desperately disappointed at the final whistle when they just lost out to a late try.

West's tries came from Mike Kite, Gareth Wood, Shaun Bartlett and Lee Parr. Marksman Craig Hillam kicked four goals.

Guiseley Rangers are four points clear at the top of Division Six following their 30-16 win at Underbank A.
