More than 14,000 pints are expected to be supped over the weekend at this year's Bradford Beer Festival.

Organised by the Bradford branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the three-day festival at Saltaire's Victoria Hall will give people a chance to sample some of the 100-plus ales on offer.

The Beer Festival has been running since 1980 and has been held at the historic hall since 1998, when it moved out of the Bradford city centre.

CAMRA's Bradford branch secretary John Bell said there was always a really good buzz at the event.

He added: "The festival has a fantastic atmosphere and people really enjoy themselves.

"Come Saturday there will be about 500 people in the hall who will be talking, drinking and having a good time."

Mr Bell said beer-lovers from all over the country were expected to attend the festival and sample beers, ciders and perrys from Scotland and the north of England as well as from Belgium and Germany.

Bradford CAMRA has more than 400 members who come together to promote real ales.

Mr Bell said: "Real ale has a much better taste. It is brewed in a traditional manner with the yeast still in the barrel when it is delivered to the pub so it undergoes further fermentation and the taste is improved.

"Real ale needs more looking after because you need to keep the temperature right and make sure it is still before you serve it to the public."

The festival starts tomorrow from 6pm to 11pm, with further sessions from noon to 4pm and 6pm to 11pm on Friday and from 11.30am to 4pm and 6.30pm to 11pm on Saturday.

Tickets have already sold out for Friday night and both Saturday sessions but are still available for tomorrow. Call 01274 591076 for details.
