For Bradford couple Joyce and Colin Hill the closest thing they have come to night of gambling is a bingo evening at a nearby club.

But now they are heading to the bright lights of Las Vegas after becoming the first winners of the Telegraph & Argus Buy It In Bradford lucky number prize draw.

Every day the T&A is offering £25 cash to the reader whose Loyalty Card number is printed in the paper, with unclaimed prizes rolling over to the next day. And every Friday a top prize is also up for grabs for the lucky winner, also rolling over if it is unclaimed.

The prizes are part of the T&A's Buy It In Bradford campaign to urge shoppers to make the most of what the city centre has to offer.

The cash and Las Vegas holiday for two went unclaimed until yesterday which meant Joyce won.

She said: "I am thrilled. I am absolutely delighted it hasn't really sunk in yet - I don't know what I would be like if I won the Lottery. Las Vegas is not somewhere we would have ever thought of going.

"I never win competitions. I think the last time I won something was a competition in the T&A to go and see 101 Dalmatians 20 years ago."

She said the £175 prize money would go towards treats for her three grandchildren Josh, 12, Bethany, ten, and Alex, six.

"When I saw the lucky number in the paper I thought 'I have got that!' but I had to double check.

"It has all happened so quickly, you read about the prizes in the T&A and all of a sudden I have won."

Joyce, who lives in Greengates with her 68-year-old husband Colin, retired 18 months ago as a support worker for children with special needs.

Now the couple are hoping their good luck continues as they prepare to hit the Las Vegas casinos.
