West Bowling are back in knock-out action tomorrow when they entertain Sharl-ston Rovers in the fourth round of the GMB National Cup at the Bankfoot Oval (2.00).

Bowling must put last week's heartbreaking one- point Powergen Challenge Cup extra-time defeat against Hull Dockers firmly on the back-burner against the highly successful Wakefield outfit.

Sharlston, who have former Dudley Hill favourites Gordon Long and Lee Kelly in their ranks, earned a place in rugby league folklore when they knocked Dewsbury Rams out of last year's Challenge Cup and are looking to repeat the feat when they meet Oldham in just over a fortnight.

Wests player-coach Glenn Bar-raclough, who was left to reflect on what might have been when Dockers were drawn at Castleford Tigers on Wednesday night, said: "Sharlston are known as the cup kings, have lots of experience both at pro and top amateur level and have enjoyed good runs in all competitions.

"However, we know we play-ed well last week both in defence and attack and we will be concentrating on carrying on where we left off against the Dockers.

"Lee Innes is back in the squad after playing for the Army and, despite the disappointment of the narrow defeat, the lads know they were desperately unlucky and are really up for this one.

"It might well be that home advantage may make all the difference."

Birkenshaw must win at Queensbury if they don't want to be cast adrift at the bottom of the Pennine League Premier Division.

Birky are two points behind Bury in second from bottom and have suffered a number of setbacks prior to this vital clash.

Paul Bancroft (foot), Andy Hirst (ankle) and Steve Brown (hand) are all doubtful and will have fitness tests.

Queensbury are coming good at the right time, which they demonstrated last week with a comfortable win at Clayton. Centre Gareth Hobson and stand-off Lee Charlton, pictured left, have hit form and a close encounter looks on the cards.

Clayton have brothers Chris and John Parkin-son fit for the visit to Victoria Rangers.

Richard Hesletine's men need to get back on song after four successive defeats but while the Vics may be holding up the table with just one win, they remain a potential banana skin.

The Division One derby between Odsal Sedbergh and West Bowling A has traditionally been hard-fought, but Sedbergh have fallen on hard times this term, losing all 16 outings, and it will be a major upset if they beat the Bradford Cup finalists at Odsal Rec.

In Division Four, Thornton should register a double when they meet Slaithwaite Sara-cens for the second week on the trot, and Undercliffe seem certain to keep their un-beaten home record against Drighlington A.

Unbeaten Division Five title favourites Bank Top Harri-ers may face a stern challenge from third-placed visitors Wetherby Bulldogs, but Division Six leaders Guise-ley Rangers should have too many big guns at Sportsman Spartans.
