A West Morton woman is taking to the airwaves in Essex.

Emma Carrick (pictured) will next week take on the role of senior broadcast journalist with the GWR group.

Emma's previous jobs on radio lead back to her University of Lincoln days, when she worked on the university's Siren FM radio station aged 18. After working as a newsreader and then station manager for the following two years, she went on to work at the Pulse station in Bradford and then Real radio in Cardiff.

Emma's new job will put her in charge of the GWR newsroom in Chelmsford.

The 24-year-old will be responsible for the general running of the newsroom, including assisting other journalists, organising news, researching stories and presenting the news live on air.

GWR has recently announced plans to merge with the Capital group, making it the biggest radio company in the UK outside of the BBC.

"Getting the job has been a great boost of confidence for me, and this is a great time to join the company due to its steady progression in the marketplace," said Emma.

"The potential merger makes the promotion opportunities fantastic, and I can't wait to start the next phase of my career."

Emma is the daughter of the former Yorkshire cricket captain, the late Phil Carrick.
