Keighley's new blues club is establishing itself with a new name and a monthly line-up of national and international acts.

The Spectrum Blues Club opens its doors on March 11 with US band The Spikedrivers playing Delta roots music.

The three-piece band has been acclaimed for its thrilling guitar playing, and "outstanding, impressive and entertaining" acoustic style.

Coming up in future months are the Sean Webster Band (April 22), Emily Druce and Steve Jones (June 17), Muddy Waters' harpist Mojo Buford (July 1), Smokehouse Blues (September 23) and the Elevators (November 11).

All the concerts will be supported by Keighley band Blues Breakdown whose members, Michael Ford, Wayne Marshall, Tom Madden, Allan Greenwood and Mick Nosurak, are running the club.

The men, all experienced musicians and long-time blues fans, originally set up the SAC o' Blues Club with two concerts last autumn.

The name change is in honour of Keighley firm Spectrum Finance which is sponsoring the costs of bringing UK and USA artists to the town.

Spectrum Blues Club is at St Anne's Social Centre, Spring Gardens Lane, and £4 tickets are available from the centre or by phoning 07974 241801.

n Canada, Spain and Latin America all play a part in influencing music being played at Glusburn Institute next month.

Canadian musicians Pavlo aim to provide flamenco, salsa and Latin music, humourous repartee and a Greek bouzouki.

The show has been arranged by Northern performing arts agency Get Moving and the institute's development officer Tamsin Headey.

She said: "The passionate guitar solo guitar, infectious drumming and pulsing rhythm of Pavlo's music is a delight for all.

"During the show there is an opportunity to get up on stage with Pavlo and dance to live hot, Latin music."

The band will spend the day of the concert working with local schoolchildren. The concert will be the first of a monthly arts programme.

Tickets cost £6 for adults, £4 for children, and £15 for a family. Phone 01535 630223.
