Saint Josephs 16 Keighley Town 12 - Keighley Town dropped valuable promotion points in a close encounter at home to St Josephs.

Both teams started off well and created early chances, but it was the Saints who were to break the deadlock after only five minutes. Town responded very positively and created chances with good handling skills in the brisk conditions.

They soon drew level through winger Jamie Benn. The ball was sent through four pairs of hands before centre Andy Stokes made room for Benn to crash over in the corner. A touchline conversion from Alan Muff made the scores 6-6.

Town continued in dominant mood, and were starting to penetrate the Saints defence with ease. Strong running from forwards Dale Spencer and Quinton Sneyd ensured Town were able to launch an attack close to the Saints line. Rocky McNulty burst on to a short ball from Sneyd and put Town into a deserved lead. Muff converted.

Town were playing confidently and Saints were looking jaded. But over-confidence cost Town a try when centre Muff burst over from close range but stepped into touch when trying to make the conversion easier.

This proved to be a turning point in the game, Saints picked up their game and converted a penalty to make the scores 12 - 8.

Saints would have gone in to half time in front but for excellent cover defence from full back Steve Jones who pulled off an excellent solo tackle that took the attacking Saints player over the line and into touch.

Unable to create chances in the second half, Town's lead was slowly eaten into by Saints. Indiscipline cost Town two needless penalties, and Saints' stand off tied the game up at 12-12.

Saints dominated the game for 20 minutes, and only Town's strong defence kept the scores level. Town could not get out of their own half, and with 10 minutes remaining the pressure told and Saints scored in the corner.

The unconverted try left the game in the balance at 12-16 in the visitors favour.

Town tried desperately to get back into the game, but Saints held out.
