BUTCHER Richard Arndul was star of the show when Keighley boxing club and Keighley Albion RFL staged their annual boxing promotion last weekend.
Arndul cut his powerfully built opponent, Tom Hinchcliffe of Kelly's ABC, Leeds, down to size to score an outstanding points victory. He had also recently scored a fine win at Preston after returning to the sport after his schoolboy days.
The manner of his victory also earned the 'Boxer of the Night' award and the Gary Whitaker Memorial Trophy for the best local boxer on the show.
Also shining for Keighley at senior level was 18-year-old former England Academy boxer John Gunning who outpointed Said Blazer of Hull.
Keighley also had four schoolboy prospects in action including Danny Whittaker who almost brought the house down as he outpointed Keiron Brakes of Bradford.
Jason Jeffrey narrowly outpointed Keiron Masosn of Harrogate to avenge his defeat at the recent Yorkshire Schoolboys final at Barnsley.
Luke Smith outpointed Preston's James Duffy by a wide margin.
Dominic Crowther played a noble part despite losing in a tough a bloody contest against Scott Cowells of Bradford.
Completing an entertaining evening Deake Banks of Bradford outpointed Tom Arinsall of of Blackpool, Paddy Cawley of Sheffield outpointed Scott Moran of Blackpool. Jack Arnfield of Blackpool outpointed Dan Toohey of Cleckheaton and Gary Bowes of Guisborough outpointed Kevin Roe of Leeds Star.
During the evening Keighley's recently crowned Yorkshire Schools Champion James Kellett, who also reached the North Eastern Counties final, received a standing ovation.
