Dean Windass admits he is in his "worst form of the season" because of a niggling back injury.

But City's 18-goal hitman is confident a week's rest will have him firing on all cylinders against Huddersfield at Valley Parade.

Windass has been troubled by his back for a couple of weeks and played through the pain again in the 1-1 draw at Walsall.

"I've been having extensive treatment but it has been very difficult," he said. "I don't like not playing, the gaffer wants me to play and if I can physically walk out there then I will do.

"It's probably been my worst form of the season but it's because I've not been fit. I'm playing at 60 per cent at the moment, especially with the extra game last week.

"But hopefully I'm over the worst of it now and it will start easing away. I've got a week to rest it now and get a bit of treatment and then I'll be more like 90 per cent for Huddersfield."

Steve Schumacher smashed his fourth goal of the season with a superb free-kick to fire City in front at the Bescot. But Neil Emblen levelled to keep Colin Todd's side in 11th spot, still five points adrift of the play-offs.

Windass, who took over as captain with David Wetherall banned, said: "That's still a good point after two defeats. We've stopped the rot and can now look ahead to a Yorkshire derby which will look after itself.

"You can count Luton and probably Hull out of it but we've got to catch the chasing pack."

As well as Wetherall, City were missing Nicky Summerbee, and Todd was pleased with the response of his reshuffled line-up.

Todd said: "People will have looked at our side and not expected us to get anything from the game. But we shaded it in the first half and had a couple of chances even in the second to have come away with the points."
