A 14-year-old schoolgirl raped after being snatched off the street is still deeply traumatised a week after her ordeal, police said today.

The teenager continues to receive counselling from specially-trained police officers.

The girl was bundled into the back of a car as she strolled down a busy city-centre street last Thursday night.

She was driven to a quiet cul-de-sac in East Bierley where one of the three kidnappers raped her after his accomplices left the car.

She was then dumped in Bowling Back Lane and walked to Wakefield Road where she alerted police, nearly two hours after she was abducted.

Today the detective leading the inquiry made a fresh appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Steve Hopwood said: "One week on from this appalling attack I appeal to people to cast their minds back to last Thursday evening.

"Three men have put a young girl through a terrifying ordeal. If you have any information at all, no matter how small it may be, then we need to speak to you.

"The girl is continuing to receive help from specially trained officers. She is still traumatised by what has happened to her and is trying to come to terms with it."

Det Insp Hopwood urged anyone who was enjoying a night out at the Leisure Exchange or was in the city centre last Thursday evening and could have seen anything related to the incident to come forward.

The teenager was walking in Bridge Street before going to catch her bus home from the Bradford Interchange at 9.15pm when a light blue Fiat hatchback car containing three men pulled up. The car had purple illuminated under-lighting.

She was driven along Wakefield Road, on to Tong Street and into Soureby Cross Way at East Bierley. The men in the front got out and she was then raped by the man in the back.

She was able to contact police just before 11pm.

Det Insp Hopwood said the car might have been driven around the area of the Leisure Exchange between 8.30pm and 9.15pm.

He said the car's under-lighting would have been very distinctive and appealed to anyone who had seen the vehicle to get in touch. They also want to hear from anyone who knows of a vehicle fitting that description.

Police have spent the week conducting extensive inquiries, including trawling through hours of CCTV footage in the areas concerned.

The rapist is described as of Middle eastern appearance, aged 30 to 35, and of a fairly muscular build. He was wearing a green sweater with beige or cream zig-zags on the front and beige or cream cord trousers.

One of the men in the front of the car was white, the other was of Middle Eastern appearance.
