A child-abuse victim today told how the respectable married businessman who sexually assaulted him had ruined his life.

Michael Hindle, 57, abused two young brothers after becoming friends with their family when they were ten and 12 years old. He filmed the abuse of one.

Jailing him for five years at Bradford Crown Court yesterday, Judge Rodney Grant said Hindle's conduct towards the younger boy could be described as "grooming." "There was an element of corruption on that young man," he said.

"You took advantage of the friendship which was shown you and your family by the boys' family, and also took advantage of the trust placed in you by them."

Prosecutor Shabbir Merali said Hindle and his wife Sue had been friends with the victims' family for many years and the brothers played with the Hindles' young son. They spent time at each other's houses and went on joint holidays.

Hindle, of Claremont Road, Wrose, Shipley, pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting the older brother in 1986 when he was ten.

He also pleaded guilty to three charges of indecently assaulting the other brother when he was 12.

When the offences came to light in December 2003, Hindle, who had no previous convictions and ran his own electronic engineering business, initially denied any abuse or sexual relationship.

Nicholas Dry, for Hindle, said his wife and son were standing by him.

"Mr Hindle has already lost a great deal," he said. "His good name has gone forever."

After the case the younger brother, who is now 27, said Hindle remained a danger to boys.

"He is a scheming person," he said. "I thought he was a family friend and liked him at first. When the abuse started he told me there was nothing wrong with what we were doing. I just thought it was normal.

"Later I felt trapped and couldn't get away from him. It has ruined my life."

The boys' 54-year-old mother said: "It was hard to hear what happened to our sons. We were so trusting, we sent the boys into danger."

Hindle's wife revealed they would be appealing against the sentence.
