Nazish Ejaz could be the next Vivienne Westwood or Stella McCartney.

The 22-year-old from Heaton is on the cusp of what could be a dazzling career in the world of fashion design.

Nazish - or Nazo as she is known - graduated from Bradford College this year with a degree in fashion. And she is now taking her fabulous creations to fashion parties across the Bradford district to build up her business, before she hopes, opening her own shop in the city.

Born and brought up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Nazish developed a love of fashion at an early age. "I studied arty subjects at school and I used to design my own clothes, " she says. "Over in Saudi Arabia we had a lot of parties and we would have competitions to see if we could wear something that no-one else was wearing. To be totally different I would try and design something or accessorise clothes that I already owned using beading and other adornments."

When Nazish came up with a design, she would sketch it out on paper and her mum Azra would make the garment. "That is how it all started, " she says. "I carried on designing and I haven't stopped." The course at Bradford College taught her how to make clothes, so now she runs up her own.

The young designer likes to mix and match Western and Asian styles. "I like to have a mix, where outfits are not one or the other. I live in a mixed community and it is nice to reflect that."

She adds: "If the outfit is predominantly Western in style I like to add a little touch to make sure people know that it was designed and made by an Asian designer."

Nazish is excited about starting her own business and is this month travelling to London, as well as scouring the shops in Bradford, to source materials to make up a range of outfits for her first collection. She is planning to host parties both at home and in the homes of other women who want to see the clothes.

As well as more traditional styles, Nazish is to include full-length evening dresses and dresses with Victorian-style neck lines, and she is using accessories to add detail.

Nazish is hoping her business will be a big success and plans to open her own shop in Bradford.

"I am going look at the response to my collection, and hope things take off."
