THE FIMBLES St George's Hall There's a party playing at St George's Hall this week - that is, if your idea of a party involves big, blobby, stripy things, a sarky talking frog and a fluffy bird of indeterminate breed but with the homespun wisdom of Annie Sugden.

It is, of course, none other than BBC children's telly faves The Fimbles. And as well as their usual Fimble Valley crew of Rockit, Roly Mo, Bessie and her little chick Ribble, the Fimbles (Fimbo, Florrie, Baby Pom and Pimbo - sorry, that last one's an industrial estate near Skelmersdale) have roped in flesh-and-blood CBeebies favourite Sarah-Jane Honeywell, she of the boundless exuberance and blonde pigtails.

Sarah-Jane is our guide to a magical party of songs, games, stories and a loose plot involving a fallen star down Fimble Valley way, and youngsters are positively encouraged to get jiggy with it in the aisles.

My son Charlie, three in June, pogoed with the best of them and when not trying to lead a stage invasion, declared: "My like the Fimbles."

Which, as far as I'm concerned, is a ringing endorsement they should put on their posters.

Fimbles runs until Thursday.
