A Bradford manufacturer of seasonings and mixes has bought a food company based in Chesterfield.

Family-run Gordon Rhodes & Sons, based in Chase Way, off the M606, has merged with Supreme Food Ingredients Limited.

"Supreme is a small company which makes a popular range of high quality glazes for products such as chicken tikka, Chinese chicken and minty lamb. These glazes are a natural extension to our product portfolio and by introducing our own production methods we believe we can rapidly grow the business," said Gordon Rhodes' senior partner Ian Rhodes, pictured with Stephen Griffiths, centre, and Christine Rhodes.

He declined to say how much the takeover was worth.

Stephen Griffiths of Leeds law firm Lupton Fawcett which has been consulting Gordon Rhodes on the merger said: "Owner managed businesses are the backbone of the British economy. Gordon Rhodes & Son is an excellent example of a well-run family firm."

The three generations started the company when it first started making seasonings in 1989. It originally started as a sales organisation and has moved three times due to business growth.

The acquisition is the company's second. The first was in 2000 Prestige Supplies Ltd that was also a seasonings manufacturer which was Newcastle based.
