Licensing chiefs have agreed to allow a Shipley pizza and burger bar to extend its opening hours, despite a councillor’s objections.

Mohsin Ali, of Kash in Leeds Road, Windhill, applied to extend the business’s hours until midnight from Sunday to Thursday, and until 1.30am on Friday and Saturdays.

At a meeting at Bradford City Hall today, members of Keighley and Shipley Licensing Panel allowed the first extension but restricted the second to 1am.

They also ordered that no home delivery orders could be taken after 11pm and that the takeaway ensures the exterior of the shop is kept clear of litter.

Councillor John Watmough (Lib Dem, Windhill and Wrose), who objected to the extended hours because of potential noise, litter and disturbance caused by people loitering outside, told the panel: “People are concerned it is a very built-up area and there are a lot of elderly residents.

“They really do fear if the licence is granted people will park their cars outside their homes and it is not acceptable in a residential area.”

Speaking to the applicants, Coun Watmough said: “People say what nice people you are.

“It’s just 1.30am – people would hang about until 2am and that’s what people are looking at. Residents think that’s too long.”

A spokesman for Kash told the panel efforts would be made to stop customers hanging around outside the shop and, if necessary, the police would be informed.

After the meeting the spokesman said: “We are happy with the timing but we really get busy at nights after 11pm so we are a bit disappointed about that (the home deliveries).

“It’s just a matter of seeing what happens now.”

Coun Watmough added: “I’m pleased they’ve changed it from 1.30am to 1am.

“I had hoped for better but I am pleased about the litter factor.

“If there is trouble it will have to be revisited.”
