Moorland visitor spot Ilkley Tarn has had a £45,000 makeover using money from the sale of a former ranger’s cottage on Ilkley Moor.

Money from the sale of Silver Well Cottage has gone into the revamp of the Tarn, says Bradford Council, and the expected rising numbers of visitors this spring will be able to see a difference to the area.

Work has been going on during the winter to clear and resurface paths and steps around the tarn, and improve drainage.

Councillor Anne Hawkes-worth said: “Victorian-style lanterns have been installed on top of newly painted columns and the timber seating shelter completely rebuilt and re-roofed.

“These renovations have really improved this part of the moor and restored it to something like its former glory. We will be adding more information at the tarn so people can discover more about its history.”

The cottage sold to a couple in 2007 for £375,000.
